David Smart is a seasoned business coach, mentor, and management consultant with over 35 years of international experience helping organisations and leaders succeed. He has a deep understanding of business performance, systems development, and people capability. David brings practical insights that support growth, improvement, and sustainable results across diverse industries. He recognises that strategies that once worked may not always fit new challenges and offers fresh perspectives and tailored guidance to overcome obstacles.

EARLY LIFE

From an early age, I was fascinated by how organisations and people perform at their best and how strong systems can support growth and resilience. This curiosity shaped my path into management consulting and business coaching. Over time, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the ways strategic thinking, practical systems, and people capability can transform organisations.

My professional journey began with hands‑on experience in management, audit, and consultancy, specialising in areas such as quality, safety, security, and environmental systems. In the mid‑1990s, I launched my own consulting practice, which eventually evolved into Smart ISO Systems & Smart Mentoring, providing coaching, mentoring, training, and systems support to clients around the world.

Having worked extensively in North America, Europe, and the UK, I have been privileged to support leaders and teams across sectors to overcome challenges, streamline processes, and build capability. I am also a qualified lead assessor across multiple ISO standards and a member of several professional bodies, including the Chartered Institute of Management, the Chartered Quality Institute, and the Institute of Leadership & Management.

Driven by a commitment to help others succeed, I’ve devoted my career to guiding businesses and leaders through change, improving performance, and strengthening organisational systems. My work blends practical experience with tailored coaching and mentoring to help clients reach meaningful and lasting results.

CAREER

My career spans more than 30 years in management consulting, business coaching, mentoring, and ISO management systems, working with organisations across the UK, Europe, and North America. Throughout this time, I have focused on helping businesses improve performance by strengthening leadership, building effective systems, and developing people at every level.

Since the mid-1990s, I have worked as a consultant and business coach, supporting organisations of all sizes with strategic planning, operational improvement, and the design, implementation, and maintenance of ISO management systems. My work includes leading ISO projects across multiple standards, delivering audit and lead auditor training, and providing ongoing support to ensure systems remain practical, effective, and aligned with business goals.

Alongside my consultancy work, I provide coaching and mentoring to business owners, senior leaders, and management teams, supporting change, better decision-making, and stronger leadership. I have worked with clients referred by the Scottish Chamber of Commerce and the Coalfield Regeneration Trust, as well as private and voluntary organisations, and I currently serve as UK Director for Accurate Global Inc., an ISO certification registrar—always focused on practical improvement, people development, and sustainable long-term results.
